Governor Geidam reveals Boko Haram burnt 209 government buildings, schools in Yobe

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state disclosed recently that his administration has spent over Four Billion Naira to tackle Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

According to him, over 200 patrol vehicles were made available to security operatives, while 200 million naira is also being expended on logistics and monthly allowances among other needs of the security operatives in the state.

Gaidam who disclosed this when he received the presidential committee on dialogue and peaceful resolution of security challenges in the north, said since November 2011, lives and property in the state had been destroyed by the insurgents.

He said that about 209 government schools amounting to N2.5 Billion naira were torched, while many private structures amounting to N629 million were also destroyed by the insurgents.

Between November 2011 and October 2012, in addition to the loss of lives, public buildings like schools, mosques, churches and vehicles were razed down by the insurgents. About 209 government schools, buildings comprising classrooms, hostels, workshops, laboratories, administrative blocks, vehicles destroyed by the insurgents also amounted to N2.5 Billion.

The Governor further disclosed that blocks of government agencies belonging to both private, Federal and state houses, estimated at over N629M were also burnt down.

Chairman of the committee, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki,SAN, said they were in the state to attest to the fact that the Federal government was committed towards reconciling with the insurgents.
