Governor Gaidam throws weight behind emergency rule

The Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has welcomed the state of emergency imposed on his state by President Good luck Jonathan.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Information, Abdullahi Bego, said the Governor was in support of Mr President’s decision on the imposition of state of emergency in the state, as there would have been no other alternative to peace.

“As everyone knows, there is no alternative to peace. The Yobe state Government therefore agrees with Mr President on the need to take more effective measures to address the problem of insecurity in the country” the statement says.

Governor Gaidam, while supporting the decision of President Jonathan expressed regrets that over the past few years, the problems of insecurity and criminality in the state and other states of the north have led to many deaths and injuries, thereby causing untold hardship to millions of innocent people.

He urged the good people of the state to be law abiding and to go about their normal business, adding that “the Gaidam led administration like always will continue to partner with security agents to ensure normalcy is restored across the state.

“The Governor assures the public that the state government will continue to work closely with the security agents and will ensure that the conduct reflects the spirit of the emergency declaration by Mr President and the rules of the engagement specified for that purpose.”

He calls on the people of the state not to relent in praying to Almighty God for the restoration of peace and security in the state and the country in general.

President Jonathan in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday night declared an emergency rule over increasing violence in the North-east region. The states are Aamawa, Borno and Yobe
