The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has ordered the authorities of Lagos State University, LASU, to allow students of the institution revert to paying the old school fees.

The recent increase in the institution tuition had sparked protests by students which snowballed into an industrial action by the institution’s lecturers. The students had demanded that the governor reduces the fees from N390,000 to N46,500.

The governor’s announcement which was made at the 19th Convocation and 30th anniversary of the state owned university was received with jubilation by the students and their parents.

Fashola informed that the reversal cuts across all departments and faculties of the tertiary institution.

The governor also commissioned the university’s School of Transportation during Thursday’s event which took place in the school premises.

DailyPost recalls that the astronomical spike in school fees pitched the government against the students for several months. This necessitated the setting up of a committee to review the fees.  The committee set up by Governor Fashola was headed by the State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa.
