As the crises rocking the National Working Committee (NWC) of People’s Democratic Party,PDP, heightens, with factions threatening the Party in many States of the Federation, Governor Martin Elechi has vowed that PDP in Ebonyi State will not welcome PDP returnees who caused violent in the area, especially during the 2011 General elections.
Governor Elechi disclosed this while addressing the people of Afikpo North Local Government area during a thank you visit embarked upon by his administration to the 13 Local Government Areas of the State.
According to Governor Elechi,’’ those who committed atrocities will not be welcomed with open arms because, we have a culture ,we have a tradition, we have our sense of morality. It is not enough to win votes in elections. It is more important to be law abiding and if God says it is your turn, you will be voted in, if God says it is not your turn ,no amount of violence will enable you get to the coveted sit. And so I keep saying that we are happy to welcome those who have come back ,but it is not everywhere in the State that we will welcome every body. We will insist that you go back to the people whose relations you murdered, those houses you burnt, whose relations you maimed , make peace with them first and foremost before seeking re admission into PDP. That way, we shall have peace, that way, we shall have freedom in our communities. That is our position and nobody will force us to change that’’.
Governor Elechi also in defending the victory of President Jonathan, noted that if people had in one reason or the other stopped Dr.GoodLuck Jonathan from being the president after he was declared winner both at the national convention Of the PDP and at the election, there will be no country called Nigeria today, because every part of the country was determined to say no more to the wrath of election rigging. His election proved that this country belong to all of us and not to part some of us, and that no matter where you come from, when God uplift you it will be your turn to render any service to the community of our nation, he stated’’
Elechi ,however, stated that he was happy to welcome the decamped members.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, the former ANPP candidate of Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone in 2011 general elections, Barrister Idu Igariwey, expressed happiness for the opportunity given them to come back to PDP,promising that they would remain very loyal to the party henceforth.
