Governor Dickson cautions political appointees not to speak against Jonathan

Mr Henry Dickson

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State yesterday handed a stern warning to political office holders and elected officers from the state against utterances capable of portraying the home state of President Goodluck Jonathan as divided and working against his re-election in 2015.

Speaking in a statement issued yesterday by his chief press secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Governor cautioned that any wrong statement may be capitalised upon by the opposition to give the state away as divided.

Dickson’s statement came against the backdrop of a reported speech by the speaker of the state assembly, Hon. Kombowei Benson, which challenged the political influence of President Jonathan in the state.

The speaker, who is also a close ally of the governor, was said to have cautioned the president against interfering in the choice of senatorial candidates for the party in the state.

But in a swift reaction, the Bayelsa Governor said: “The state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a peaceful, united and focused family under the leadership of the president and the governor who are working together for the good of the state and the nation.”

He noted that the PDP in Bayelsa State was working collectively and rallying the needed support for President Goodluck Jonathan and the party to record the maximum success possible in next year’s elections.
