Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva received a whopping sum of N847 billion over the period of five years of his administration in the state.
Dickson, who made the damming allegation on Thursday during a live interview programme in Yenagoa, said that the former governor had no reason whatsoever to have under developed the state.
He said Sylva received a total allocation of N847 billion from the federation account between 2007 to 2012 that he held sway as the governor of the state, as against the sum of N599 billion received by his administration in four years.
The Governor further said the figure was in addition to the bond and bank loans secured by the Sylva’s administration, “but were not utilized for the purpose they were collected.”
He explained that the repayment of the loan, bond and other financial commitments by the immediate past administration was eating deep into the finances of the state.
Dickson, who assured the people of Bayelsa of his readiness to improve on his first term achievements, said his administration had put in place enduring legacies in terms of infrastructure.
He boasted that in the last three and half years, his administration had built roads, notably among them, the three senatorial roads, construction of bridges, including the first flyover and building of schools with boarding facilities across the senatorial districts.
“With the various achievements put in place, we have raised the bar on providing good governance, accountability and financial prudence,” the governor said, adding that Bayelsa as among the few states still living up to their responsibility.
