Governor Aregbesola to pay elderly people N10,000 monthly allowance

In the quest to care for the aged in Osun state, Osun state Government under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has approved a N10,000 monthly allowance for them under its social security scheme tagged: “Agba Osun”.

Disclosing the commendable initiative on Friday, the Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Special Needs, Mr. Biyi Odunlade said that 1,343 out of the 1,602 beneficiaries have received their first two allowances noting that the remaining 259 persons are yet to show up for their payment.

Odulande said 114,814 elderly persons were identified in  30 local governments of the state at the end of a survey carried out by the State government  between February 27 and March 10 this year.

He however assured that a rehabilitation and transit camp would be established by the State government for the mentally challenged and destitute.

It would be recalled that recently, Governor Aregbesola appointed six physically-challenged persons into political positions in the state while  six others were given jobs in the civil service commission.
