Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has officially pardoned 30 prisoners in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi, he said the pardon was effected to mark the country’s 57th Independence Anniversary and was a follow up to recommendation of the State Advisory Council.
The statement said: “The prisoners’ pardon was part of the prerogative of mercy which the governor executes regularly particularly during the annual independence anniversary.
”Most of the released prisoners were recommended for pardon on account of having been found to be of good conduct while serving their jail terms.”
Akeredolu also expressed optimism that the pardoned prisoners would be of good behaviour and contribute their quota to the progress of the state.
