Governor Abdullahi sets 14 prisoners free in Kano

Following the recommendation of the state committee on the prerogative of mercy, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Friday, set 14 inmates of the Kurmawa Central Prison in Kano metropolis free, after he paid their fines.

Governor Abdullahi made the release of the inmates known on Friday during a visit to the prison in Kano, stressing that the gesture was part of the state government’s efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the common man, especially those inmates who could not pay the fine.

He gave the 14 inmates N5, 000 each to enable them transport themselves to their respective home towns and villages, urging them to be of good conduct after their reunion with their respective families.

The Comptroller of Prisons in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, in response, commended the governor for the gesture and the state government for its continuous support for prisons in the state.
