The Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu has disowned a recent media report, which had claimed that it was denied audience by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the State.
In a press statement made available to DAILY POST by the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, Dr. Ifeanyi Ojobor, he said contrary to the claims in the media, the State Government was making frantic efforts to offset the outstanding salaries owed workers in the institution.
Ojobor said, “for the avoidance of doubt, we state emphatically that the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, contrary to the above report, has graciously granted audience to the Rector, Registrar and other members of IMT Management on more than two occasions to deliberate on the matter, since his inauguration on May 29. In fact, the latest was on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in his office at the Lion Building.
“On the non-payment of workers’ salaries, which is unfortunate, but not peculiar to IMT, may we state that it is basically as a result of the downturn in the nation’s economy due to the drastic fall in the price of oil in the international market.
“The reason why the state government has not released our subvention, which enables us to pay salaries, may not be unconnected with the fact that the state allocation from the federation account has drastically reduced due the current economic crisis in the country.
“However, we are certain that the well-meaning and magnanimous Governor of Enugu State, who is passionate about the well-being of workers, is attending to our problems.
“The Institute, therefore, wishes to call on the entire staff to be patient and show more understanding with the management and the government, as all efforts are being made to address the situation for the overall interest of all stakeholders”.
