A former governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, on Saturday, again hailed Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, describing him as the political leader of the State.

Chimaroke spoke as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State intensified its campaign efforts, with the Governor, himself and other candidates embarking on a vigorous exercise on the streets and suburbs of Enugu, canvassing for votes.

Speaking during the campaign at the various areas visited amid excitement and cheers from teeming party supporters and admirers, such as New Haven, Bridge Quarters by Railway, Enugu, Iva Valley, Coal Camp and Ogui Nike, Senator Nnamani thanked God for using Gov. Ugwuanyi, whom he described “a great leader and a man of uncommon leadership virtues who respects the symbol and heritage of Nsukka”, to revive his political ambition, urged the people of Enugu State to massively vote for the governor, himself and other candidates of the party in the state.

“He is now our leader in this State and all of us have to key behind him. I have said it repeatedly that there is no contest as far as the position of the Governor is concerned. In every other position, there is contest but that of Governor, there is no contest,” he said.

Senator Nnamani, who could not hide his gratitude to Gov. Ugwuanyi, prayed God to give the governor good health, strength, wisdom and protect him and his family.

Apparently referring to his successor, Barr. Sullivan Chime, Chimaroke said “they wanted our vehicle to ground; they wanted our engine ‘to knock’, but God has used Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to keep us moving.”

Speaking on how his several efforts to return to the Senate was frustrated through manipulation of votes, Senator Nnamani, however, said it was clear that God wanted to do things in his own time.

In a remark, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who appreciated Senator Nnamani’s human empowerment gesture, especially the leadership role he played in the political life of virtually every politician in the state today, equally appealed to the people to remember him in prayers and give him 100 percent votes to return to the Senate.
