Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has said good governance can be attained with the relentless efforts of every individual in a country and their collective resolve to build a society of their desire and taste.
Aregbesola made the submission at a flag-off of a health initiative programme by the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) tagged: Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers,” organised for the people of Erin-osun and its environs, in collaboration with Irepodun South Local Council Development Area(LCDA).
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Kolapo Alimi, argued that there is need for well meaning individuals, and other private sectors, including non-governmental organisations, (NGO) to be a pillar of support for any country in distress as a non-state actors.
He charged Nigerians to always think of what they could do to bring developments to the country as complement to government’s efforts.
Aregbesola applauded the initiative of NYSC in taking the healthcare service to the grassroots, stressing that the state government is making frantic efforts to equip health facility in the state.
“It is time for us as Nigerians to buckle up and see the need to support government at all levels in order to enhance the core principle of good governance.
“Individuals, who are economically blessed need to support the government by contributing significantly to the well being of others and as well giving back to the society.
“The future of our nation is secured and guaranteed with projects like this, which will definitely go along way in supporting the government policies towards the provision and promotion of free healthcare delivery.
” We consider it paramount as government to appreciate the initiative of the NYSC which we strongly believe will impact greatly in the lives of our people and as well assisting the government in achieving its goal of giving people quality health care,” Aregbesola said.
The Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Emmanuel Attah in his earlier remarks lauded the Osun’s healthcare scheme, and efforts toward making the people to live healthy life.
He added that the health initiative was the idea of the former Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen J B Platinum which the Corps sees as a way of ameliorating health challenges in the states, for the purpose of supporting the states’ interventions on quality, and free healthcare delivery.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of Irepodun South LCDA, Mr. Oloyede Adekunle in his speech described the NYSC initiative as timely for the agrarian communities.
