Gombe Governorship Tribunal orders INEC to release documents to parties

(NAN) The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Gombe State, has ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to expedite action on the reproduction of necessary documents requested by lawyers to prosecute their petitions before it.

Justice Mathew Adewara, Chairman of the tribunal, being assisted by Justice Abba Mohammed and Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman gave the order at the pre-hearing session in Gombe on Saturday.

The chairman gave the order following the complaints by Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), who is the counsel of the petitioner, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya and the APC.

They are challenging the victory of Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo.

He said they had made several efforts for the INEC to serve them with some of the viral documents to be used before the tribunal.

According to him, they were served with some and denied other documents as requested.

Similarly, the counsel of ADC and Mr Sam Kargbo also drew the attention of the tribunal on the issues of the documents as they were yet to receive the documents.

The Counsel to INEC, Mr Isiyaka Dikko, told the tribunal that he would consult the legal Officer of INEC to see that they provide them with all the documents to prosecute their cases.

Earlier, Justice Mohammed said that if they had followed the due process, there was no reason for parties not to be served as ruled by the tribunal one month ago.

He advised INEC to ensure it supplied all the necessary documents for all the parties to move forward.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Tribunal had given the counsels till Saturday to agree among themselves on the documents to be forwarded for the proceeding.

The Chairman further adjourned the session till Friday June 26, and ordered INEC to expedite action and supply parties with all documents requested. (NAN)
