The President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Ali Wali, has refuted reports that the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau was attacked by students of Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, during an official visit to the state last Wednesday.

Comrade Wali told Leadership on Friday that it was a mere coincidence that the students were protesting lack of basic amenities in the school when the minister incidentally came to Gombe on impact assessment.

“Our students in FCE Gombe were only protesting the continued lack of water, electricity, poor accommodation and other social amenities in the school. They never attack the education minister.

“The media reports that FCE Gombe students protested against Malam Ibrahim Shekarau were only figments of some mischief-makers’s imagination. The minister even stopped to address the protesting students and promised that government would address the matter,” he said.

The NANS President called on the students to remain calm and law-abiding, as NANS leadership would do everything humanly possible to address the issue.

Comrade Wali also called on the Management of FCE, Gombe to ensure the provision of basic amenities for the students to enhance conducive learning environment within the school, adding that NANS would be visiting the school on a fact-finding visit.

He assured the education minister of the continued support of Nigerian students for the ministry’s programmes aimed and repositioning the education sector.
