The Dubious Goals’ Panel has awarded Arsenal’s second goal against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day to Alex Iwobi.

The goals’ accreditation panel, ruled that Iwobi’s header was not an own goal by Joel Ward, who helped the ball into his own net.

Olivier Giroud had given the Gunners a first-half lead with a ‘scorpion kick’ finish, following a swift counter-attack. Iwobi then doubled their advantage in the 56th minute.

It is the Super Eagles forward’s third goal of this season.

He has posted 15 appearances in the league for the London Gunners this season.

Arsenal are now third on the table with 40 points, three points behind second-placed Liverpool and nine points behind leaders Chelsea.
