Get back together – 2face begs Don Jazzy, D’Banj

A former senator, Florence Ita-Giwa, has commended Nigeria’s famous Pop singer, 2Face Idibia, for singing love songs and celebrating women with his music.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ita-Giwa poured encomiums on Idibia at musical concert, tagged “2Face: Fortyfied at 40’’, to mark the singer’s 40th birthday on Sunday.

Ita-Giwa said at Eko Hotel venue of the event that the artiste had uplifted and respected women in his songs, and that Nigerian women of all ages were, therefore, in love with him.

“2Face has shown love and respect towards women in his songs and Nigerian women in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s love him.

“We all love him; I love him for what he has done for women through his songs,’’ Ita-Giwa said before presenting the celebrator with a necklace and a huge cross pendant.

NAN reports that the concert began at about 10.30 p.m. with comedian, Basketmouth, as the host.

There were performances by Kennis Music’s artiste and 2Face’s lookalike, Jo-El, who was joined on stage by other young artistes — Efa, Rocksteady, AJ and Dammy Krane — to render a medley of some of 2Face’s hits.

A partially-sighted producer, Cobhams Asuquo and former Nigerian Idol winner, Timi Dakolo, also performed another set of 2Face’s songs including, “Holy Pass’’ and “Dance Floor’’ before Timi rounded off with his own song, “Iyawo Mi’’.

Young Dancehall artiste, Patoranking, then took the stage for some Reggae tunes and cover of 2Face’s, “One Love’’, before finishing with his own song, “My Woman’’, which featured Wande Coal.

Comedians, Gbenga Adeyinka and Yaw, came up for some comic interlude, but Adeyinka lazily threw a joke about a blender which, he wholly, lifted from a currently running advert on radio.

Musicians, M.I. and Sound Sultan, alongside comedian, Bovi, then “roasted’’ 2Face, but most of the jokes were on themselves with a few on 2Face and the rest praises on the celebrator were totally enjoyable.

Sound Sultan performed a cover of 2Face’s, “Raindrops’’, with Dancehall rapper, Spydaman and a lady artiste, Uhuru.

Gloria Ibru, Darey, Zaina, Omawumi and Seyi Shay — all took the stage in turns to sing — before comedian A.Y., came up for his own set of jokes.

Also A version of the 2Face Peace Award was presented to the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) with Kenny Ogungbe receiving it.

There were more performances by Olamide, D’banj, Banky W, M.I., Vector, 9ice, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Wande Coal and 2Face before the show drew to a close at about 2.10 a.m.

2Face, who had been interjecting into various parts of the proceedings from his seat, also used the opportunity to ask D’banj and his former producer, Don Jazzy, to get back together for one more project.

NAN reports that 2Face also received a lot of good wishes from his fellow artistes and other entertainment personalities who wished him well in his new age. (NAN)
