General Alkali: Army parades 13 suspects over missing officer

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday paraded 13 suspects over the missing Retired Major General Idris Alikali whose car was found in a pond in Dura Du, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Garrison Commander and head of the Search and rescue team, Brigadier General Umar Mohammed said the suspects were not the ones who committed the crimes but, “Those who heard and saw the criminals that stopped the retired senior officer, and those who pushed his vehicle into the pond but failed to report these criminal act to the security agencies”

Among the 13 suspects paraded was a woman.

According to Mohammed, “A cordon and search operation was also conducted in the community and some people were apprehended.

“They were moved to the barracks where they were screened, profiled and interrogated.

“These suspects will be handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and persecution.

“The persons to be handed to the Police include those who were in possession of firearms without license.

He maintained that “It is pertinent to state that all the actors involved in this criminal act who are still at large are known to us, efforts are being intensified to get them arrested as their photographs and personal details are with the relevant security agencies.

The Garrison Commander further stated that the army exhibited high level of professionalism and best international practices in accordance with rules of engagement during the cordon and search, as well as in apprehending the suspects.

He appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and solicited any credible information leading to the whereabouts of the missing General.

Meanwhile, police authorities have confirmed that the suspects and the exhibits in the case have been transferred from 3 Division Nigerian Army Barracks, Rukuba to the Plateau State Police Command, Jos.
