Gbaramatu: Group demands withdrawal of Military ‎from Delta community

A group under the aegies of Foundation for Human Rights And Anti-Corruption Crusaders FHRACC has called on the international community to prevail on the Federal Government of Nigeria to withdraw its occupational forces from the Niger Delta region, particularly from Gbaramatu Kingdom.

FHRACC National President, Alaowei E. Cleric Esq in a statement warned that only timely intervention of the world powers could save Niger Delta people from extinction.

The group expressed grief over the recent invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom allegedly by the military on Monday June 26, in spite of the sacrifices made to keep peace by the Niger Delta people.

While noting that Gbaramatu Kingdom was not at war with the Nigerian Government, the group condemned the recent invasion saying,”it’s prelude to what is coming.”

The group also described as “nightmare” the presence of the military in their domain because they allegedly maimed and intimidated the people on daily basis.

The group claimed that the “callous” and “mindless” attack on the defenceless people by contingent of the Nigerian armed forces in land and water operation, with a support helicopter gunship hovering around the entire Kingdom, especially its traditional headquarters, Oporoza town, leading to the desertions of the Kingdom by the inhabitants, was the worst form of human inhumanity.

“To us, this is an ominous sign of a planned Rwanda genocide to be perpetrated against the Niger Delta people.

“There is no justification whatsoever for this latest military onslaught. Government cannot feign ignorance of the atrocities committed by the Niger Delta people’s blood-thirsty Nigerian armed forces.

“We want to let the world know that the people of Niger Delta are no longer safe living in their own country. The world must come to our aid before Africa experiences another Rwanda genocide in this 21st century.”

The group further stated that “sending such gun-wielding and battle-ready troops to an environment that is peaceful cannot be excused of any sinister motive.

“Except the Federal Government comes out openly to condemn and punish the perpetrators of this heinous act of aggression, the world must take note that the Nigerian Government has mapped out plans to wipe out the Niger Delta people from planet earth.”
