Gang torture man, rape lover in Lagos

A man, simply identified as Ganiu, and his lover, Ibiyemi, were attacked by a gang of eight in Ago Egun community, Ilaje, Bariga area of Lagos State, during which they allegedly raped the lady.

The hoodlums, who were reported to be residents of the area accosted Ibiyemi and her lover while they were walking to her house.

Ganiu in an attempt to wade them off his 24-year-old lover engaged them in a fight but was overpowered.

Five members of the gang blindfolded the girl and raped her, while three dealt with Ganiu who was seriously injured.

He was said to have reported the matter to the Bariga police station.

Two of the suspects were arrested and then transferred to the Gender Unit of the state Police Command headquarters, Ikeja while others are still at large.

Ganiu, a builder, said he was shocked at the attack because he did nothing to warrant such.

He said, “They just attacked us. They were not with any weapon. Five of them raped my lover. Two persons have been arrested by the police, but I learnt that they might be released.”

A resident of the community who is also a human rights worker, Toyin Okhlagogo, said that Ibiyemi has been taken to Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, for treatment.

He said, “The victim was paid some money by the family of one of the suspects to treat her bruises. She was thereafter taken to the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, for treatment. For now, there are two suspects in police custody in Ikeja.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirming the incident said investigations are ongoing to arrest the others at large.
