Some male students of the shehu shagari college of education sokoto, went on rampage last night and attacked female students and their male visitors at the school premises. Reports from eye witnesses suggests that about ten female students were gang raped by the male students, who also destroyed more than 5 cars parked within the school premises.

The most amazing part of the incident was the absence during the incidence of the school provost and other school administrators who are residing within the school.

The public humiliation that those female students were subjected to shows the lack of leadership and careless  attitude of the school authorities. Nobody has any right whatsoever to rape and maltreat  any woman, talk less of students conniving to rape fellow students.

The fact that the school trains teachers is also very disturbing, because rapist are not qualified to teach any child the morals that are supposed to be learnt in school.

The school authorities should as a matter of urgency fish out the perpetrators of this evil and uncivilised act and hand them over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution. This should also serve as a wake up call to the sokoto state government. They should look into the affairs of the tertiary institutions in the state, before things further deteriorate into chaos and anarchy. Sokoto as the seat of the caliphate should not condone rape and maltreatment of students just because one cigarette smoking professor is sleeping on the wheel.
