The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Wednesday night carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle as he swore in Hajiya ‘Yardada Maikano Bichi as the Commissioner for Women Affairs.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Director-General, Media and Communications in the Government House, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, the erstwhile commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Barr. Zubaida D. Abubakar, was moved to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Speaking shortly after swearing in ‘Yardada as member of the state executive council, the Governor explained that the development was necessitated by the fact that the former Commissioner of Budget and Planning was recently appointed Accountant-General of the state.
He stated that the new commissioner was appointed on merit, urging her to put in her best towards attaining the goals of the administration.
The new Commissioner, Bichi, was a teacher and until her appointment as Commissioner, she was the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education. She has also worked for some years as education specialist with COMPASS, a USAID funded project and ESSPIN – DFID.
Meanwhile, Ganduje has signed into law the state Land Use Act 2016, which is said will assist in generating additional revenue needed to develop the state whose population is the largest in Nigeria.
The new law encompasses taxes like tenement rates, ground rents and neighborhood improvement charge in addition to regularizing operating regulations and procedures for land transactions among other things.
