Students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, yesterday, chased out management staff of the institution from their offices over failure to connect electricity to their hostels yesterday, DAILY POST reports.

The students in a protest stormed the University to register their grievances chasing them out and warning people against attending the Institution’s 10th Matriculation Ceremony scheduled for today Wednesday February 22.

The President of the Student Union Government, SUG could not be reached as at the time of filing this report but other students told DAILY POST that they now live in perpetual darkness in their hostels.

DAILY POST could not independently confirm if the incident was the reason the 2016/2017 matriculation scheduled for today did not hold but residents of the area confirmed that there was a protest by the students yesterday.

In a swift response, the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE denied that students chased staff out of the institution over its failure to connect their hostels with electricity stressing that, “We are not on strike.”

A staff of the University’s Public Relations Unit simply identified as Boniface told DAILY POST that, “ We are not on strike. That is not true. I am in the office.”

Another Staff of the University who spoke on anonymity corroborated the claims of the P.R.O Official saying, “ I am in the office and lectures is going on.”
