FUOYE student in court over alleged possession of Indian Hemp

A student of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ishola Oluwaferanmi, has appeared before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged possession of Indian hemp.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the 23-year-old student committed the offence on April 17 in Oye-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant was caught on the campus with five wraps of Indian hemp by the university security officials who handed him over to the police.

According to Okunade, the offence contravened Section 5 of the India Hemp Act 2004.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Tunde Olayemi, urged the court to grant him bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one credible surety in like sum.

Adegboye adjourned the case until May 24 for hearing.
