President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, sent a 46-man list of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
The list was read on the floor of the senate by the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, at Thursday plenary.
Close analysis of the list shows that Lagos State has the highest nominees of three persons while Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja had no nominee.
Reacting to the development, the Senate Minority Whip and Senator representing FCT, Philip Aduda frowned at the list, saying President Muhammadu Buhari was not fair to the people of Abuja who “joined queue under the sun and in the rain to vote for the government of change, the APC.”
Expressing his grievances on the floor of the Senate after the communication from the President was read, Aduda cited sections 301, 299 and 14 of the constitution of Nigeria which provides for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja to be recognized and treated as one of the federating units of Nigeria.
He therefore urged Buhari to have a rethink and consider the people of Abuja in nominating ministers, non Career ambassadors and other sensitive national portfolio.
