Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, has told Gonzalo Higuain to work on his physical condition, ahead of their clash with Fulham.
Higuain got reunited with Sarri in England, for the remainder of the season and the 31-year-old started promisingly with a brace in his third match against Huddersfield.
However, the Argentina striker has suffered a barren spell in front of goal since the beginning of February and was dropped to the bench for the side’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
Sarri has warned that the player must improve physically to get back to scoring ways.
Asked about Higuain’s impact ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Craven Cottage, Sarri told Sky Sports: “I think that the contribution was really very good in the last match [against Spurs].
“He played with his team-mates well, I think that he needs more acceleration because now he is a little more resistant but without the acceleration, he had in Naples for example.
“I think he needs to improve his physical condition especially for acceleration and then he will score, of course.”
Sarri also refused to be drawn into talk of Higuain signing for Chelsea on a permanent basis in the summer.
“I don’t know. I think for us it’s better to think about Fulham. You are too much in the future,” he added.
