Fulani cattle rearers strangle vigilante, injure farmer in Kwara

Residents of Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into a state of mourning as four herdsmen of the Bororo-Fulani tribe killed a vigilante member identified as Mr. Raphael Dada.

The cattle rearer on April 1 and at about 11am strangled the 48-year-old vigilante to death at the Omi-Arin farm in the community.

It was gathered that Dada’s wife, Elizabeth who went to Omi-Arin on the day of the incident to pluck cashew, was not allowed into the farm by the herdsmen. The wife of the deceased was said to have gone back home to inform her husband of what has happened.

He immediately took up arms and headed for the farm to caution the gang.

The assailants aside killing the 48-year-old vigilante member also shot one Babalola Joseph who was on the farm to harvest his crop; he survived the attack but sustained gunshot wounds in the leg and on the back.

While Dada’s corpse was deposited at the Cottage Hospital Mortuary, Joseph was rushed to Omu-Aran General Hospital.

Confirming the incident, the Image-maker of Kwara State Police Command, ASP Ajayi Okansanmi, said the Command had received the report and is currently investigating the incident.

He said, “I am aware of the incident and the police have commenced investigations on the attacks. We have restored peace to the community and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the assailants.”
