Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has assured citizens of the state that the Funlani/Benue farmers’ clashes would soon be over.
Only recently, suspected Fulani cattle rearers attacked Agatu community, killing no fewer than 200 persons.
However, the governor has called on the people of the state to remain calm and allow the government to find a lasting solution to the crises.
Governor Ortom made the appeal while addressing the people of Nongov at Saghev in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
He assured the people that his recent meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was already yielding results as the Presidency had deployed a the delegation to ascertain the level of the crisis in Agatu in view of ending the clashes.
Governor Ortom said the Benue State Government would soon enact a law to stamp out kidnapping and other forms of violence in the state, stressing that development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.
The Governor thanked the people of Nongov for the support given him as Governor and restated the commitment of his administration to constructing roads in the area, building primary health centres and numerous other projects for the people.
He said he had returned home to present himself to the District Head of Saghev, Tyoor Uwouku Abanka and the entire people of the area for their blessing as he had promised them before the 2015 elections.
