Motorists and travelers in Akure, the Ondo state capital and other major towns in the state now go through serious challenge while trying to get fuel for their vehicles following the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol in the state.
Even where the product is available, a litre of petrol is sold between #200 and #230 with a long queen of both vehicles and motorcycles.
Also, many residents have decried non-availability of vehicle to to convey them to different parts of the state, while drivers of the few vehicles on the road now charge exorbitant fare.
In most of the filling stations visited by our Correspondents in Akure, fuel was not available, while those that have fuel in the outskirt of the city charge high prices.
A long queue of vehicles was noticed in the few filling stations that have fuel despite the exorbitant price of the product.
The same was said to be the situation in other cities and towns in the state including Ore, Ondo, Owena and Okitipupa where few filling stations sell a litre at N200.
The situation has however affected social and commercial activities in the state as the scarcity has paralyzed industrial activities in many places in the state.
The mega station of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Akure was locked up when our correspondent visited the station yesterday and none of the staff of the station was willing to speak on the development.
It was however gathered that the product has not been supplied to the NNPC mega station since last week, while the last supply of the station had been exhausted.
The situation has also brought untold hardship to residents of the state following the hike in prices of goods and transportation.
