Fuel hits N350 per litre in Benue, travelers stranded

A litre of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known petrol is currently selling for N350 in some parts of Benue State, DAILY POST has learnt.

A resident told this reporter on Tuesday that only few petrol stations were selling at the state outrageous pump price ranging from N300 to N350 per litre.

Emmanuel, a commercial motorcyclist, otherwise known as Okada said he bought a litre for N350 at a filling station located along Orokam road.

“I just bought a litre for N350 to take my sister who is traveling back to Lagos to the park. We had to return because only a bus left Obollo for Lagos this morning.

“Many passengers were stranded today because most of the parks are not even operating due to the fuel scarcity,” the resident told our reporter.

Another commercial driver who plies Orokam to Otukpo said he had not been working for five days now.

“This is the fifth day I’ve been staying at home. I’ve sworn not buy a litre beyond N150. I heard black marketers are selling a litre for N350, for what? If I buy a litre for such amount, how much do you expect me to charge passengers? I better relax at home,” he said.

Checks at many filing stations on Tuesday in the area showed that most of them were under lock and key.

Similarly, in neighboring Enugu State, the pump price across all filling stations is now N250.

DAILY POST reporter in Enugu confirms that while most of the filling stations in the state were permanently locked, long queues could be noticed at any station selling.

“I just bought a litre for N250. Even at that you still have to be on the queue for so long. It is terrible. Very terrible,” he lamented.
