Fuel hike strike: Ministries, banks, schools closed in Plateau


The strike action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC), over the hike in petrol price has commenced in Plateau State, with ministries, government offices, schools and commercial banks closed.

Despite an injunction issued on Tuesday by the National Industrial Court in Abuja, the NLC still went ahead with its planned strike.

The Plateau State Chapter of the NLC said it has set up a monitoring committee, to go round and ensure compliance.

Chairman of the NLC in the state, Comrade Jibrin Bancir, told journalists, on Wednesday that the committee would ensure member of the unions take part in the strike.

The Plateau Radio Television Corporation and Highland FM, owned by the state and federal governments were closed.

While all banks in the state have equally shut down.

When DAILYPOST went round to check some government agencies, it discovered that there was total compliance and most of the gates of the agencies were manned by members of the NLC to ensure compliance.
