FTHI doctors battle hospital accountant, petition EFCC

‎Medical doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe alleged financial misconduct by certain staff of the health institution.

Acting under the aegis of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, the doctors said the alleged hostile disposition of the accountant of the hospital, Mr Rotimi Aladesawe had been stopping the Acting Medical Director, Dr Raymond Okere from running the hospital in the most proper and professional way.

Issuing a 14-day ultimatum for implementation of full salary to medical doctors, contrary to half being paid in the past, the doctors also passed a vote of no confidence on the accountant.‎

They urged the hospital’s management to effect his immediate removal to engender industrial harmony in the health institution.

Okere came into office in March, 2016, following abrupt termination of his predecessor’s tenure, Dr Lawrence Ayodele due to persistent crisis he had with the workers.

At a press conference in Ado Ekiti at the weekend by its Chairman, Dr. Timothy Olajide, the doctors said the present position of the hospital, where the accountant had allegedly been hiding the financial records from the Acting CMD made it imperative for the anti-graft agency to wade in without delay.

Olajide said part of the resolution reached at its emergency meeting of July 20, 2012 was the need for immediate sacking of the accountant to prevent the hospital from total collapse.

He said the doctors had at several times cancelled already scheduled operations and procedures because of lack of water supply, lack of oxygen, electricity and paucity of fund occasioned by inaccessibility of the hospital’s accounts by the CMD.

“MDCAN , Ido Ekiti can no longer withstand or tolerate the embarrassing excesses, affront and effrontery displayed by the hospital’s accountant towards the acting CMD.

“The association noted with dismay that despite the instruction of the acting CMD to the hospital’s accountant to recommence the payment of full salary to his medical doctors, which was illegally reduced by the immediate past CMD in May 2015, the accountant is yet to respond.

“MDCAN noted with dissatisfaction, the evasiveness of the accountant on issues pertaining to the hospital’s finances. There are allegations of connivance between the officials of the federal Ministry of Health and hospital’s accountant to frustrate the efforts of the acting CMD and prevent him from taking possession of the finances of the hospital.

“We hereby issue a 14-day ultimatum to the hospital to commence payment of full salary beginning from July , failure which we may‎ not be able to guarantee industrial peace and harmony in the hospital”, they said.
