The Osun command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Thursday warned travelers against boarding vehicles by the roadside for their security and safety.

The Sector Commander, Mr Muhammad Husaini, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo that most of the vehicles that pick passengers by the roadside were not known or registered with any road transport union.

Husaini said that any vehicle that was not registered with any of the transport unions could be used by criminals to perpetrate crimes.

The sector commander warned that “aside being used for criminal activities, when such vehicles are involved in accidents, it will be difficult to identify the victims or contact their relatives.

“There are registered motor parks and garages in the state where commuters can safely board vehicles to their destinations.

“If passengers board at the designated motor parks, they are made to fill the passenger manifests.

“A copy of this manifest will be with the driver on the journey while another copy is kept in the park for record and security purposes.”

Husaini said it was an offence for drivers of commercial vehicles to convey passengers without the manifest.

The sector commander said that the manifest helped the commission to keep record of vehicles and people involved in road crashes.s
