A New Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Cross River State, Mr. Chidiebere Nkwonta has ordered the closure of all mobile courts sitting in Calabar.
Nkwonta ordered that, henceforth, mobile court should sit in Odukpani, about 20 km outside Calabar.
Mr Nkwonta, a newly posted Sector Commander in the state, disclosed this in calabar explaining that the relocation became necessary following the complaints and cry from residents over the frequency of mobile court in Calabar metropolis.
“The people are crying that the frequency of mobile court in Calabar metropolis is too much.
“We will talk with the judiciary and see how we can make it comfortable for the people. The law is for the people and not the people for the law”, he said.
“We must act in the interest of the people. FRSC is a community based organisation and people have to identify with us and accept what we are doing.
“We are not going to have mobile court in Calabar again. Our new mobile court post will now be at Odukpani which is the only gateway to Calabar by road”, he said.
On the issue of drivers’ license, Nkwonta said that the corps under his leadership will set out modalities to clamp down on fake drivers’ license holders.
“I am going to intensify efforts in checking drivers’ license within this period. On weekly basics, we are going to do special drivers’ license check in all the unit commands in the state.
“I will also meet with the Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service so that we can collaborate and also generate some revenue for the government”, he said.
On staff welfare, the Sector Command promised to reward hard working officers of the corps.
