FRSC officer allegedly kills final year student over N100 bribe in Kogi

There was pandemonium over the weekend as students of Kogi State University, Anyigba, took over the Ankpa-Anyigba road to protest the alleged murder of an unidentified final year student of the university by a Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, officer along Ankpa road.

According to an eyewitness account, the student was allegedly beaten to death for failing to bribe the said officer.

It was alleged that trouble ensued when the officer stopped the student and after interrogation, demanded for a bribe of 100 naira.

The late student was said to have refused to part with the sum, leading to a heated argument between the duo.

The officer was said to have descended on the student, leading to his death.

When the news filtered into the campus, thousands of students reportedly thronged the streets and later stormed the FRSC office in the town.

The police were seen battling to restore order to the town as bonfires were seen on the road of the university community.

Vanguard reports that the officer was whisked away to safety by his colleagues.

Some of the students who spoke on the incident, allegedly expressed grief at the death of the final year student, threatening to fight on until justice is done.

Reports further revealed that when the Sector Commander of the Corps was contacted, his phone rang out and there was no response to the various messages sent to his mobile lines, as at press time.

However, a Senior Officer in the sector who spoke on condition of anonymity reportedly confirmed the incident.
