FRSC, NURTW partner to reduce accidents on highways

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, have resolved to partner in curbing overloading in their collective efforts to reduce the spate of road traffic accidents and fatalities in the country.

The partnership agreement was a fallout of the advocacy visit paid by the corps marshal and chief executive of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, to the NURTW Headquarters in Abuja over the fatal crashes recorded in some parts of the country this year, which claimed a number of lives.

Oyeyemi stated that the crashes which resulted in the loss of several lives owing to overloading should be a wake-up call to all stakeholders to rise up to the occasion with a view to preventing recurrence. He stated that appropriate measures must be put in place to guard against such incident in the future.

The corps marshal, in a statement signed by his media aide, Sani Abdullahi, listed the successes recorded by the corps during last year’s end-of-year special patrol, and attributed them to the collaboration between the FRSC, the NURTW and other stakeholders.

While lamenting that fatal crashes which claimed several lives were already recorded few weeks into the New Year due to overloading, he warned that the corps would no longer tolerate such occurrences.
