FRSC moves against substandard tyre pastes

The Federal Road Safety Corps has said it would ban the use of food-based and substandard tyre pastes being used by Vulcanizers across the country.

In a statement issued in Abuja and made available to DAILY POST, the Corps revealed that over 5,000 lives were lost in road crashes since 2010 till date, noting that the unfortunate incidents of those crashes were due to tyre patches.

The statement which was signed by its Head of Media Relations, Bisi Kazeem, stressed that the move was in consonance with the House of Representatives’ resolution to the effect that the road agency must do what is within its statutory powers to curb incessant road crashes.

It further said the agency would henceforth prosecute those vulcanizers who engaged in the use of fake tyre , while they will continue to intensify the sensitization and enforcement campaigns.

“We will intensify the sensitization and enforcement campaign to curb the influx of substandard tyres, non-lubricant rims and fake tyre sealing pastes, as well as the use of food-based products on tyres by vulcanizers”, the statement said.

The statement added that Vulcanizers were culpable for the ways and manners they improperly handle tyres during repairs if such has led to accident on the road.
