Free education a political gimmick – Balarabe Musa tells state governments

Former Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji AbdulKadir Balarebe Musa, has noted that the introduction of free basic education from primary to junior secondary school level in some states was a political gimmick meant to deny the masses qualitative education to degree level.

He told DAILY POST in Kaduna that the whole exercise was political misinformation, stressing that, “any government that talks about free basic education from primary to junior secondary school is an insult. The country has enough natural resources to introduce free education from primary to degree level.

“The waste signifies by high level of corruption and criminal waste of resources in the country brought Nigeria what it is experiencing today. One thief in Nigeria steals not least than one year budget of the country and gets away with it.”

He observed that lack of free education has adversely effected the youths, thereby having more youth in the country taking to social vices, pointing out that government at all levels are just deceiving the people with their educational policies that have no concrete basis. “The government is not doing what it ought to do with the resources that abound in the country for the welfare of the citizenry,” he added.

In Kaduna State, he said, with the introduction of the free basic education, nothing has been done to ensure its full take off after the governor made the pronouncement some weeks ago. “Previous governments in the state made similar pronouncements with nothing to show for it all these years,” he stressed.

The former governor explained that for free education to be effective in Kaduna State and elsewhere, steps must be taken towards ensuring proper arrangement through the provision of enough classrooms, qualitative teachers and other learning materials that need to be put in place for the realization of the set objective.
