A petrol laden tanker Saturday evening failed its brake at Agu Awka junction in Awka, causing it to somersault and erupt in flame, razing alongside three other vehicles, which were burnt to ashes.
DAILY POST gathered that the tanker, which was conveying petroleum product, was descending the Anambra government house hill, enroute Enugu when it lost its brake.
A source at the scene told our correspondent that the driver and conductor of the truck were able to jump out of it before it suddenly went up in flames, gutting three other vehicles said to have been parked around the area.
A visit to the scene showed that men from the Police patrol team, fire service personnel and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps were already on ground.
Anambra state Police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, who spoke to our correspondent at the scene of the accident, said, “We rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent looters from taking advantage and to protect lives and properties.
“Fire service personnel were equally contacted and are trying to extinguish the fire as you can see. So far, three other vehicles affected by the inferno were completely burnt but no casualty.”
