Four sales rep detained over alleged theft of employer’s lace materials worth N8.3m

Four sales representatives, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of 86 bundles of lace materials worth N8.3 million from their employer.

The defendants: Tahiru Munlai, 25; Umar Haruna, 25; Abubakar Dauda, 47 and Hussaini Iliyasu, 23, were charged in court with two counts of conspiracy and stealing of which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah told the court that the defendants allegedly carted away 86 bundles of various types of lace materials valued at N8.320 million, property of the complainant, one Mr Ali Abdulmumini on May 13, about 11.30pm at No.37 John St., Idumota, Lagos Island.

“The complainant suspected his sales representatives to have conspired with outsiders to steal the lace from the warehouse because they have access to it,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola granted the defendants N300,000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum, adding that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of three year’s tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until July 22, for mention.
