Four policemen who were supposed to be on guard at the residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle when he was kidnapped, have been detained by the Police.
Reliable sources at the Bayelsa Police Command told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday that the policemen were being interrogated as part of investigation into the kidnap.
Spokesman for Police in Bayelsa, Asinim Butswat, told NAN that the Police had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.
It will be recalled that Chief Inegite who was abducted on Feb. 17 had been kidnapped earlier in Feb. 28, 2014 in his house and was later freed by security forces at Akipli community in Ogbia on March 10, 2014.
A family member, Mr Igbogiamini Paul, told NAN that the policemen were absent when the kidnappers invaded the residence of Jonathan’s uncle.
He said if they had been on ground, the old man would not have been easily abducted as there would have been resistance from them.
