Four months old baby remanded in prison with mother


A four-month old breastfeeding baby, Akachi Keneth, alongside his mother are currently been remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos for allegedly assaulting her neighbour whose name was given as Godwin Anigbogu..

The Police at Ikotun Division arrested the mother of the toddler, Mrs Chinonye Kenneth, who resides at No 10 Omoboriowo Street, off Ile Iwe bus stop, Egbe and arraigned her before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ court in the state for reportedly pushing Anigbogu into a gutter during a quarrel. Anigbogu was, as a result of the push, said to have sustained some injuries.

The incident was reported to the police at Ikotun Division leading to the subsequent arrest and arraignment of Chinonye in court on a two-count charge of assault and wounding under the Criminal Code.

When the charges were read to her, she pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola however granted her bail with two sureties in like sum, adding that she must show proof of one year tax payment.

Fashola ordered that she be remanded in prison custody pending when she meets up with her bail terms.

The Magistrate adjourned the case till November 18 while the accused was reportedly taken to prison alongside her baby as she was still breastfeeding the toddler.
