Four killed in rival cult clash in Kwara


A clash between two rival cult groups in Ilorin, Kwara State capital at the weekend, reportedly left at least, four persons dead.

The battle which ensued over supremacy happened at Babako, Ita – Amodu and Agbo-Oba areas of Ilorin metropolis from Saturday night to about 4a.m. on Sunday.

Members of Aiye confraternity reportedly first struck at Baboko area of Ilorin around 9:30p.m. on Saturday and allegedly killed two persons.

Later, cultists at Baboko area headed for Ita-Amodu and Agbo-Oba areas of Ilorin on revenge, where they allegedly killed two persons in the areas.

According to residents who expressed fear that the situation was getting out of hand, they had to flee from the affected areas to avoid being killed.

A resident who simply identified himself as Sola, told journalists that at the end of the clash, four persons, including 20-year-old man, were killed.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said one death was reported to the police.

Okasanmi said, “I can confirm that only one person was killed by the suspected cultists and this happened at Babaoko area of Ilorin.

“Men of the state police command have taken his corpse to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH and investigations are ongoing,” the PPRO added.
