Four docked for gang raping 16-year-old girl in Lagos


The police on Thursday arraigned four men before a Yaba Magistrates Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly gang raping a 16-year-old girl.

The suspects identified as Lekan Jimoh, 25; Tunde Ajayi, 20; Taiwo Awoniyi, 23, and 18-year-old Ojo Olayisoye are standing trial on a one count charge of rape.

While testifying in court, the prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, said the accused persons committed the offence on June 12 at Egan-Igando area of the State.

Narrating the incident before the court, the prosecutor said, “On her way, one of the accused, Jimoh, who usually disturb the victim, stopped her and attacked her with the other three accused persons.

“Jimoh conspired with the other three accused persons to defile the 16-year-old girl.

“The accused persons covered her eyes with a cloth and carried her to a room.”

Anyanwu stressed that the accused persons threatened to stab the girl with a knife if she refuses their advances, an offence which he said contravened Section 258 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charges were read, the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O Soladoye, consequently adjourned the case till August 3, adding that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.

Soladoye granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
