Four dies from cholera outbreak in Nasarawa

Four persons have died following the outbreak of cholera disease in Shege ward of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The state government confirmed this in a statement from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health in Lafia, the state capital.

Thirty-eight cases of the disease were confirmed in the area and four of the patients died on their way to the primary healthcare facility in the ward.

According to the statement signed by the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Musa Abdullahi, “the remaining 34 persons are in a stable condition and are receiving adequate treatment.

“The state government has deployed a team of medical personnel in the area to commence the distribution of drugs to the people.”

Abdullahi added that Director of Public Health in the ministry, Dr Ibrahim Adamu, who led the team of medical personnel in the area, assured residents that government would not relent in its efforts to curb the spread of the disease outbreak in the state.

He said a rapid response and investigation team has also been stationed in the area to attend to affected persons and to halt the further spread of the disease to other parts of the community.
