Four passengers in a tricycle, otherwise known as Keke Napep, on Wednesday lost their lives along the Nnebisi Road in Asaba, Delta State while attempting to avoid head-on collision with a trailer loaded with bags of cement.
It was gathered that the trailer veered off its way into the tricycle’s direction around Stanbic Bank located on the Nnebisi Road.
An eyewitness, who gave her name as Iyobosasere Jane, said that the tricycle somersaulted severally as the driver rammed on stones before veering into the deep ongoing drainage hole.
The driver, however, survived but his four passengers could not make it.
The eyewitness said, “The tricycle turned upside down with the passengers trapped inside.
“They were rushed to the hospital but were confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.”
The accident, which attracted other tricycle operators to the scene, saw many people crying profusely.
The state Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, who spoke to newsmen in Asaba, described the incident as very unfortunate, adding that the state government was committed to providing good drainage system for the roads across the state.
Chief Augoye said, “It’s unfortunate that the tricycle operator crashed into the ongoing project, the state government is committed to providing drainage system across the state.”
