Forward name of acting CJ, Walter Onnoghen to Senate for confirmation – Cleric tells Osinbajo

Archbishop of Christ Missionaries Crusaders, God-Dowell Avwomakpa, has urged Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to forward the name of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen to the Senate for confirmation.

He said Osinbajo, as a professor of law, should do the needful since he is conversant with what the law states.

His call came just one day after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) charged Osinbajo to use his postion to address critical matters, especially killing of Christians.

The cleric, who condemned the treatment of the acting CJN, said it was disheartening that President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to confirm the appointment two months after the National Judicial Council (NJC) made the recommendation.

Avwomakpa, who is the Chairman of CAN, South-South Zone, told Thisday that it had become imperative for the Acting President to act instead of allowing Onnoghen to retire in acting capacity.

He further charged Osinbajo to take important and bold decisions on economic, political and religious issues.

On alleged lopsidedness of appointments in the country, Avwomakpa said the situation do not promote national co-existence, peace and unity but rather promotes sentiments, divisions and animosity among itizens.

“I will never stop praying for Nigeria and her leaders. In the same vein, if we as God’s voice on earth see anything wrong we should say it without fear”, he said.

“People are living in fear. There is more suffering in the land despit efforts of this administration to tame the economic, religious and political quagmire that the country found itself”.

The cleric, however, advised officials of the DSS to stop going after men of God who preach hard messages.

He described recent attempt to arrest Apostle John Suleman as bad omen and move to gag Christian leaders speaking out against injustice in the land.
