Onetime Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, on Friday declared his intention to resuscitate the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while cautioning against the situation where candidates are imposed on members by party leaders.
Bankole made the declaration at his residence in Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, the state capital while hosting thousands of his supporters under the banner of Dimeji Bankole Movement.
It was learnt that the former Speaker was alleged to have registered his interested in the governorship race in 2015 in Ogun State, but shelved his ambition after Senator Buruji Kashamu, allegedly imposed Gboyega Isiaka as the party flag bearer.
He warned the party leadership against any form of manipulation during the forthcoming party’s congress, stressing that any attempt to impose candidates would lead to factions within the party.
According to Bankole, he had no intention of leave the PDP as being insinuated.
“It is almost two years now. I commend your perseverance. I now know the differences. The outcome of the congress would determine the political future of PDP in the state,” Bankole said.
