A former Governor of Plateau State, Michael Botmang is dead. He passed away in the early hours of today in Zawan, Jos South Local Government.
Born in 1938, Botmang served as Deputy to Joshua Dariye from 1999 to 2007. He administered from November 13, 2006 to April 27, 2007, when Dariye was impeached by six out of the 24 members of the State House of Assembly.
He, however, stepped down when the Supreme Court ordered Dariye’s reinstatement.
Former Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Dati, who confirmed Botmang’s death, described him as an individual with exemplary character.
According to him, “His death is very unfortunate. Botmang was a loyal Deputy, who discharged his duties faithfully to his boss, Dariye, especially during those turbulent years of the administration.”
“He was an amiable person, who will be greatly missed by all.”
