Former LP scribe denies calling Ondo APC candidate, Akeredolu an ex-convict

A legal practitioner, Kayode Ajulo, has denied referring to the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State, Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu as an ex-convict.

A statement on Saturday by his media aide, Sadiq Jobi, described the comment as misleading, adding that Ajulo was simply quoted out of context.

Continuing he said, “Barrister Ajulo’s constitutional rights afford him privilege to his opinion just like other Nigerians, but he will not be unperturbed when such opinions are grossly misrepresented or laced with fallacies to tickle fancy. He has never and will never stoop so low to spread falsehoods or lies no matter the situation.

“In this particular interview with Aljazirah News, Barrister Ajulo only said Akeredolu was once indicted by a duly constituted authority and accordingly made public. Barrister Ajulo was really disappointed with the sensational and misleading headline by Aljazirah News and he has therefore demanded for the retraction of same.

“The difference between a conviction and an indictment is that an indictment only establishes whether or not there is enough evidence to charge suspect with a crime. A suspect must actually be tried and convicted by a Judge or Jury in a criminal trial for a conviction to be arrived at. As a seasoned legal expert, Kayode Ajulo would never twist nor complicate such simple fact.

“We could have been silent about this, but not at a time like this when political tension is high, and also for the price that we owe posterity it therefore became necessary for us to put the records right.

“Barrister Kayode Ajulo, though dogged and irrepressible, but at no point would he grant any interview whether privately or publicly where such frivolous and unguided statements would be made. For those who know him he chooses his words carefully all the time, very discreet and circumspect in his conducts whether in politics or whilst practising law”.
