Former lawmaker escapes assassination

Tragedy was averted recently when a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Patrick Ndubueze, narrowly escaped being killed when two suspected hired assassins attacked him in Okigwe.

It was gathered that the former lawmaker after having arrived at his residence along Okpara Road, and at the process of knocking at his gate, was attacked by heavily armed gunmen.

According to a source who craved anonymity, the hoodlums were operating on a motorcycle, adding that only the supposed passenger was armed.

“The gangster shot at the former lawmaker but miraculously missed his target. The man (Nwabueze) quickly pounced on the suspected assassin and a scuffle ensued,” the eyewitness said.

The source added that one of the hoodlums managed to free himself from the grip of the lawmaker and quickly jumped into the waiting motorcycle manned by his cohort.

When journalists contacted the former lawmaker, he said he was still in shock why anybody or group of persons would want him dead.

“What have I done to anybody? Why would anybody or group of persons want to eliminate me? The whole thing sounds like a fairy tale but it is true. I thank God I am alive to tell the tale of my life,” Nwabueze said.
